It's time for a flu shot. The Yakima Health District is hoping you have already received your vaccination or are planning to get one in the near future.
The Yakima Health District says it's safe to get both the flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time. The urgency is because of the upcoming holidays when lots of people get together and the potential for sickness spreads.

Cases of the flu were found early this year in the county

A press release from the district says "flu activity in recent years has been low due to community-wide preventative measures and COVID-19 precautions that have been in place. In Yakima County, cases of (RSV) and flu were reported in mid-September. This is earlier than the normal start of the flu season, which usually begins in October."

A special flu clinic is planned for this month

Because of that concern district officials have scheduled an community flu vaccine clinic for later this month. The clinic is planned for November 14, 4:30 pm-6:30 pm at Franklin Middle School 410 S 19th Avenue in Yakima.

Get the shots so you don't have to go to the doctor

Health officials say flu activity is considered to be at a minimal level, according to the CDC, however, influenza activity continues to increase in various parts of the nation. An annual flu vaccine is the best way to protect against the flu. "Vaccination helps prevent infection and can also prevent serious outcomes in people who get vaccinated but still get sick with the flu. It is possible for individuals to be infected with influenza and COVID-19 at the same time, which is why health officials rge the community to get vaccinated against both the flu and COVID-19 prevent our healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
