At least 479 people are now helping to douse flames the Schneider Springs Fire burning near Naches. So far the fight hasn't yet resulted in containment. Still zero containment on the blaze.

FIREFIGHTERS BATTLED WINDS AND FLAMES MONDAY THAT GREW THE FIRE

On Monday Firefighters battled winds that spread the fire and resulted in what fire officials call "extreme fire behavior." The fire on Monday grew from 18,842 acres to 28,356 acres Today. Authorities from throughout the Yakima area were called on Monday alert residents in the fire area of the approaching flames. Capt. Jay Seely from the Yakima Police Department says 4 officers and a supervisor were sent to help officials knock on doors of homes and cabins along State Route 410 from Rock Creek Road to Forest Road 1900.

FIREFIGHTERS HOPING FOR BETTER WEATHER TUESDAY

A press release from officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest says "cooler weather and higher humidity will be beneficial for fire activity Tuesday and will provide fire managers a chance to assess the fire spread from Monday. Crews are actively working along the Highway 410 corridor and Bumping River Road, and in the interior where additional fire lines are being developed or strengthened.
Air assets in the form of federally-operated drones will confirm fire spread, and aircraft will fly as resources are available and weather conditions permit."

EVACUATION ALERTS AND LEVELS REMAIN THE SAME

All evacuation levels remain the same. The officials say check with Yakima County Office of Emergency Management’s official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/YakimaCountyOEM for updates on evacuation information.

The fire was started on August 3 by a lightning strike.
The blaze is now burning about 18 miles from of Naches in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest where Campfire restrictions remain in place.
