Yakima Police are investigating the second homicide this week after a 34-year-old man died in the 400 block of West Chestnut Avenue Saturday morning.

Police received a 911 call early Saturday morning

Officers were called to the area at 5:37 am Saturday after police received a 9-1-1 call from a man who told them someone in another car fired shots at him and his friend, and his friend had been injured.
Authorities found the Yakima man unconscious in the west alley of 4th Ave and Chestnut with a gunshot wound in the leg. Officers performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived but he died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Police aren't yet confirming the shooting is gang related

Capt. Jay Seely says “at this point it’s unknown if this homicide is gang-related, based on preliminary information, there is a likelihood of a gang nexus, which is why I called detectives from the gang unit to assist the Major Crimes Unit."
Seely says there's no evidence that the shooting is connected to Thursday's homicide but the investigation continues.

Police arrested a 14-year-old boy on Friday in connection to Thursday's shooting

On Friday police arrested a 14-year-old boy on a second-degree murder charge in connection with the Thursday shooting of 18-year-old Sebastian Suarez who was killed after being shot at the intersection of South 20th Avenue and West Nob Hill Blvd. Detectives are searching for a second suspect, 16-year-old Luis Daniel Valencia also in connection to the Thursday shooting.
If anyone has information about either shooting, contact the Yakima Police Department at (509) 575-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
