The 2025 Sukiyaki Dinner Is Going to One You Won’t Want to Miss!
The Yakima Buddhist Church is excited to invite persons of all faiths and backgrounds to experience Japanese culture and eat delicious food, too. Many generations of people are looking forward to this event. My friend Arleen says that this year, people have RSVP'd coming to town from Portland, Seattle, and all over the state to celebrate!
What Is Sukiyaki?
"Sukiyaki is thinly sliced prime rib, stir fried with bamboo shoots, yam
noodles, green onions, dry onions, and celery in a special sukiyaki sauce.
The sukiyaki will be served with white rice, a cucumber salad, green tea, and
a fortune cookie." - Yakima Buddhist Church
What is the Sukiyaki Dinner?
The Sukiyaki Dinner will serve traditional Japanese comfort foods. Vegetarian plates are available, too.
The 2025 Sukiyaki Dinner is also celebrating Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day), with extra fun for the kids, plus some delicious food and activities, including taiko and ukulele performances!
You can come for the food and stay for the taiko and ukulele performances, merch for sale, and children's activities! If you want to eat inside the gym or you can choose to get your food to-go in the Drive-Thru option.
CULTURAL FACT: "Itadakimasu!" is Japanese for "to humbly receive" and is typically said before eating a meal, similar to other spiritual faiths that might say "Amen!" before eating something.
