Guests may come and guests may go, but Yakima County (and Benton and Franklin Counties) is still in Phase 1.5 of the coronavirus pandemic lockdown of 2020.

It might not be a good idea for your out-of-town guests to come to visit you (unless of course, it's an emergency situation).

Here are the top five places you can take your out-of-town guests when they come to visit:

  • 1

They/Y'all Can Stay Inside Your House

I had to make a quick trip to Tacoma for some family business and I noticed the highway signs along the way said, "MINIMIZE TRAVEL". Believe, me, they didn't have to tell me twice!

Just be careful of who you let come over your house to stay a while!

Go Hang Out In Your Back Yard

There is nothing wrong with having people over for a backyard barbeque--Social Distance, of course! This could turn out to be a great place to take your out-of-town peeps, especially if everyone remembers to frequently wash their hands.

Guests can bring their own plates and cutlery to minimize contamination. Your out-of-town friends and family can also bring their own lawn chairs so their COVID butt germs don't get on your lawn furniture.

And the best part is that you don't even have to leave the house!

Grab Some To-Go Ice Cream and Scram

What a refreshing way to not only beat the heat but also cool off your soul by getting some ice cream to-go.

There are many local fast food ice cream options of course, like Frosty's (Wendy's), Blizzards (Dairy Queen), Sundaes (McDonald's), frozen ice cream balls (Dippin' Dots), and shakes (Sonic Drive-In), but it's always a great thing to support our local "Mom & Pop" shops, too!

You can even have the ice cream delivered to your doorstep using the UberEats and DoorDash apps, or have some local groceries delivered via Instacart!

Chill Out On the Sofa and Watch Something

This would be a great time to catch up on your favorite TV shows and find new ones to love. Have you seen Hamilton on Disney + yet? I have already watched it twice.

If you don't have Disney + but you have Netflix, watch the Swedish supernatural thriller, Dark, if you're into quirky, suspenseful stuff (you might need to change the audio or subtitles to English or Spanish).

If you have HBO Max, you can watch The Outsider, starring the fabulous Cynthia Erivo (also featuring a pivotal, yet cameo role from my husband, Jason Bateman).

If you don't have any of the above streaming services but you have the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel, you can watch old episodes of Columbo or Murder She Wrote, or any of all those other "detective mysteries" series, like me!

Tell Them to Stay Their Buns at Home

If you are extremely concerned that you or someone in your household is susceptible to catching the coronavirus, you can always tell your out-of-town guests that it is not a good idea for them to come over to your place. They will surely understand this, and if they walk into your house and won't leave, just throw 'em out, Fresh Prince of Bel Airp-style! (Ha, ha, I just got a visual of you doing that.)
