DMX Gives First Post-Prison Performance in New York
The dog is off the chain. After being released from prison on Friday (Jan. 25), DMX is back doing exactly what he does best, performing rap songs.
On Saturday night (Jan. 26), Dark Man X made his first post-prison performance at Mr. Ciao in Staten Island, N.Y. In clips of the performance, the Yonkers, N.Y. rapper wears a camouflage shirt, gold chain and black skull cap. The energy is still there as he performs hits like "Ruff Ryders' Anthem," "Where the Hood At," "Party Up (Up in Here)" and more, backed by DJ Finesse.
According to those in attendance, "[X] performed his greatest hits — along with some freestyle material," for more than 100 fans and supporters who packed into the restaurant. Ja Rule was actually supposed to be the featured performer of the night but he canceled and was replaced by X.
After serving a year in West Virginia's Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution for tax evasion, Earl was released on Friday, a couple of days prior to his scheduled release date. The same day, he was spotted on camera for the first time. In the photo, the rapper is hanging out with his son and fiancée while eating breakfast at a diner.
DMX is working on getting back to his normal life. He has been ordered to pay back $2.3 million in restitution and plans to do so by touring and other ventures. While he was in prison he was reportedly offered book and movie deals. It is unclear if he has accepted any of the offers.
