Flat Tire Leads to Arrest Of Yakima Bank Robber

A man who robbed the US Bank Branch at 56th and Summitview January 28 is now in custody in the Yakima County jail. Capt. Jay Seely says detectives have been searching for the suspect since the robbery but the search ended Monday after detectives received a call from the Vancouver, Washington Police Department.

The suspects vehicle had a flat tire in Vancouver Washington

A press release says "the Vancouver detective stated a 50-year-old transient called Vancouver PD from a bus depot after his vehicle suffered a flat tire. The transient didn’t have enough money to fix his tire or ride the bus so he called Vancouver PD and admitted to his involvement in the bank robbery in Yakima."

Seely says detectives from the Yakima Police Department traveled to Vancouver, Washington and interviewed the suspect. He says the suspect had details about the robbery that only he would know. A search of the suspect vehicle found $2,200 in stolen cash from US Bank plus gloves, hat, mask and note used in the robbery in Yakima. Seely says the man had already spent some of the stolen cash.

The suspect is now being held on a charge of robbery

The 50-year-old suspect faces a charge of First Degree Robbery.
Seely says the suspect robbed the bank at 4:00 pm on January 28 after parking his vehicle near the entrance. He walked in and showed a note to a teller that read;
“put the money in the envelope, I have a gun.” Money was given to the suspect and he fled the bank and into a silver sedan.
He's now being held in the Yakima County jail.
