Fentanyl Killing Hundreds in These Four Counties in CA
Fentanyl. Authorities all around the country say it's coming into America in large quantities and it's killing thousands every day in the Pacific Northwest.
WOW THAT'S A BIG INCREASE IN DEATHS
California has been hit hard in fact four counties in California saw the largest number of overdose deaths in the state in 2023. In fact between the years of 2019 and 2021 California saw a 121% increase in opioid related deaths.
FOUR COUNTIES IN THE STATE HAVE BEEN DEVASTATED
As you can imagine overdose deaths have reached every corner of California but four counties on the north coast of the state have seen more overdose deaths than any other areas. According to state officials Del Norte, Lake, Humboldt and Mendocino are currently seeing the largest numbers of people dying in California. They say a majority of the deaths are being caused by the deadly drug fentanyl.
HELP IS COMING FROM A BIG OPIOID SETTLEMENT
While the counties are dealing with the largest number of deaths they're also getting a majority of the $200 million in opioid settlement money from a nationwide lawsuit against drug companies.
MANY PEOPLE THINK THEY'RE TAKING ONE KIND OF DRUG BUT TAKE FENTANYL INSTEAD
The problem, say authorities is that many people who take street drugs are being killed by fentanyl laced pills sold as Percocet or other legitimate pain medication. The same problem is killing people up and down the west coast.
