Tour the Town of Yakima, Washington: 30+ Cool Things to Do
There's actually quite a bit of fun to be had in such an unassuming smallish town in Washington State!
BUT FIRST, A STROLL DOWN YAKIMA MEMORY LANE
When I first moved here, I had no idea what to expect. Luckily for me, I quickly made friends who showed me around some of the places that locals like to go.
I found some great shopping sales at the Nordstrom Rack at the Yakima Mall downtown. (Both the 'Rack and the Yakima Mall are no longer around.)
We went to cool Broadway shows at the Capitol Theatre (thankfully, still around, and now I'm a Board member)!
They took me on a mountain hike climb out in Cowiche--they called it a "hill" and said I had no idea what a mountain was--and I nearly passed out three or four times going up and coming down the mountain.
They made me eat at diner dives like the Four-Ten Restaurant (RIP).
A few years later, my new friends had me partying at all hours of the night in Yakima.
We went to The Sports Center, Jackson's Sports Bar, Pete's Nightclub, and Hoops. (Only two of those places still exist, so make sure you check them out for some nightclub fun.)
And I got "Lotusized" and sang karaoke way too many times to count at the Golden Wheel!
OKAY, THAT'S ENOUGH NOSTALGIA, LET'S GET TO THE GOOD STUFF
Let’s explore some of the best eats and outdoor and indoor activities Yakima has to enjoy, whether you just moved here, lived here for ages, or are just passing through town.
Notable seasonal highlights include:
Cheering on the Yakima Pippins during the summertime
Cheering on the Yakima Yaks at YVC or one of the high school football games in the fall
Attending one of the biggest beer festivals in the nation, the Fresh Hop Ale Festival
Remember to stop by and get some Cheese Zombies & Tomato Soup before you leave!
