Believe it or not, some families have a tradition of putting up their Christmas tree right before Christmas. It may seem weird, but it can be pretty fun. Not to mention, much less worry when it comes to keeping the pets from destroying it or kids (or adult men) from snooping under the tree. The tradition (at least for the few families I’ve experienced it with) goes like this. Get the tree a couple of days before Christmas. Bring it in and set it up on Christmas Eve. Have the big family dinner, and everyone spends time decorating the tree while Christmas music or movies play in the background. Boom! The tree is all ready for Santa. You go to sleep, and the following morning, you enjoy the gifts and spend time with the family.

Now the question is, real tree or a fake tree? With these families I saw practicing this tradition, it was always a real tree. It just made it more special. You could have a fake tree, but getting up into the attic seems less magical than bringing one from outside, not to mention not having the great fragrance in your house for the season. So if you’re wondering why tree lots are still out and about just days before Christmas, it is for these families! As well as others that might be a little too good at procrastination. So if you need a real tree to celebrate the holidays, here are 5 spots (no particular order), all great prices, and all excellent and friendly staff! Take a drive, get a tree, and make some memories!

UPDATE!!!

As I was driving through Yakima, another great source popped up on my radar selling fresh Christmas trees. I had no idea why I didn't remember them sooner!

There you have it. Some great choices to get a fresh tree just in time for the holidays. Another bonus of a live tree versus getting a plastic tree is what to do after Christmas. A tradition we celebrated in my family was the annual “Burning” of the Christmas tree. Hearing the needles and tinsel popping while filling your house with warmth and amazing smells. The first year we did the annual burning with a plastic tree didn't have the same effect. Just make sure your area isn’t in a burn ban.
