Law are in place on purpose. Most of them make sense like 'no drinking and driving' or 'wear your seatbelt' or 'don't run red lights' as, not only are these extremely dangerous to everyone else on the roads but to yourself as well.
In doing something that breaks the law it could be something as simple as a fine, which is still never fun, but in other cases it can lead to having your license revoked and/or jailtime.
Washington State has a 'No Touch' driving law that are having people pay big bucks for something that can easily be avoided.

What Washington’s “No Touch” Driving Law Actually Means
The core of this No Touch law is that you're not allowed to touch your phone while driving.
Beyond that, it also covered typing in an address on your GPS, taking photos while driving (no matter how pretty the sunset is), and talking on the phone without a hands-free device.
Even if stalled at a red light or stop sign, still not allowed.

The only exception might be to dial 911 in dire emergency.
It all falls under the distracted driving laws they have in place for a reason.
They say the first offense is typically $136 and jumps to $234 for the second. Your insurance company may also be notified which can cause a raise in your drivers insurance.
