With school starting up again soon, my wife and I talked about doing one last thing while we could. For an impromptu trip out of town, we decided to surprise our kids with a trip to Seattle.

We only told our kids to get up and get ready as we had to run a couple of errands early in the morning. We didn't spring it on them until we were just past that giant fruit stand just outside of town.

We didn't have any hard plans outside of checking out the water front, going to a ramen restaurant and meeting up with one of my friends. The rest we just played by ear.

After finally finding parking at the water front (which took us half an hour!) we strolled the boardwalk and headed our way toward Ivar's to eat and feed the seagulls. Then, from there, we checked out the Giant Wheel. As our daughter proclaimed, she's not afraid of heights, she's afraid of dying.

From there we head to the International District to grab a few things from Uwajimaya which is an Asian grocery store with lots of neat stuff to look at. Then, from there, it's on to go Pokemon hunting at Bellevue Square Park in Bellevue which I've heard is fantastic.

Or should I say herd.

When we got there, there was a herd of people running from one side of the park to the other. Bellevue Square Park has a lot of people playing Pokemon at any given time and, when someone finds something, they call out what they found so others can run and capture it, too. It was cool to see. I didn't play much as I was waiting for my friend to show up.

My friend's name is Jerry but on YouTube he's Barnacules. My daughters love his videos so I thought they'd like to meet him in real life. We hung out for a bit, got the ramen we promised and headed back to Yakima from there.

All in all, a great time by all of us and we didn't break the bank doing so.

Next time, I'll remember to bring a battery pack for the iPhone so we can play longer.
