As the Yakima Valley is the hop capital of the Western Hemisphere, it stands to reason that hemp would grow and thrive plentifully in this region as well. What kind of economic impact would the advent of hemp farms in the county have?

Washington State University is developing a breathalyzer that detects marijuana, and researchers for the project are hoping volunteers will step up for the sake of science and technology and provide their services. They're asking people to smoke marijuana -- for science!

On Monday, the state released the first 24 retail marijuana licenses, and other shops will open sometime in the near future. The first day of legal sales is today, July 8. The city of Yakima put a ban on sales, so there won't be a store selling recreational marijuana anytime soon, but if you're up for a short drive, there are a couple of places in the Yakima Valley, including Union Gap and Prosser

We truly are living in historical times. I never would have thought that I would have a hand in deciding how the City of Yakima handles the implementation of the new marijuana law. The State has a long list of rules and process that will be in place by the end of the year.
