After Donald Trump's electoral college victory made him the future 45th president of the United States, diehard fans of The Simpsons were quick to note that the long-running Fox cartoon predicted a President Trump way back in 2000. It's certainly not the first Simpsons prediction that's come true — something better attributed to their writers' canny social observational skills than to "eerie" coincidence — but the creative forces provided a reaction to this particular one on their Sunday, November 13 version of the show's classic intro.

"Being right sucks," Bart wrote repeatedly on his chalk board at school.

The Simpsons shared the newest version of their opening on Sunday night, and the original writer of the March 19, 2000 episode that predicted Trump's rise to the Oval Office told the Hollywood Reporter that the gag was then meant as "a warning to America."

The episode centered around Bart Simpson seeing himself as a now-adult "loser," as Dan Greaney described it.

"And that just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom," Greaney told THR of the President Trump bit. "It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane."

The episode finds Lisa Simpson as the Commander in Chief who succeeds the former reality star, and Lisa comments, "As you know, we've inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump."

Will The Simpsons ultimately also predict that a member of the United States' gender majority (women) will finally take top office someday? We'll find out in 4 or more years.
