Standing in line, waiting for your kids to get dressed -- there are a lot of opportunities to practice your patience. In lieu of pulling your hair out or fidgeting with whatever you have in your pocket, here are a few things you can do as you try to be patient.

  • Clean your Fingernails

I try to wash my hands several times daily in an active effort to keep from getting sick, but sometimes I get stuff under my fingernails. When I'm idly waiting, it's a good opportunity to take a quick check.

  • Delete Photos from Phone

My phone doesn't have the most memory so I need to be selective with what I snap photos of or get videos. While waiting, it's a great time to organize my phone a bit and delete any unwanted or unneeded pictures and videos from my phone.

  • Delete Old Voice Messages

Another way to free up memory on my phone as people call and leave a message, I'm not always great about deleting them to free up that room. Now's a good time to clear those out, too.

  • Plan Recipes

I do this more than I should. I think of something I probably have at home. Let's say, a can of clam chowder. Then I think of ways to incorporate that clam chowder. Maybe I can make pasta noodles and mix it in or blend the clam chowder in with instant potatoes to make a clam chowder potato-type dish. The possibilities are endless.

  • Meditate

The hardest to do of the lot. It's hard to meditate when you have appointments, have to get your kids home from school, have to clean up the house and more. However, if you're just waiting and don't have access to do anything else, there's no use stressing about it as you have to let go of the notion that you can't change anything about the current situation, like, if your flight is delayed. Just close your eyes, breath easy and know that time is passing by until the next event.
