TRADER JOE'S REFUSES TO BRING A STORE LOCATION TO YAKIMA: The Backstory

The most requested store / retail ER that Yakima wants is a Trader Joe's. There have been petitions, tons of begging, pleading phone calls to their corporate office, and numerous personal Facebook posts from local residents asking why isn't there a Trader Joe's in Yakima, but to no avail.

There's even a Bring Trader Joe's to Yakima Facebook group that has over 5,000 members. (The group has given up hope because there hasn't been a post there since before the start of COVID.)

WHY IS TRADER JOE'S THUMBING THEIR NOSES AT YAKIMA?

The standard response from the Trader Joe's headquarters is that the City of Yakima does not have the desired median income per capita to establish a store franchise here. To that I say, "Bollocks!"

I managed to make a Trader Joes Run this past weekend on my way to Seattle. My daughter, Willow, has never been inside a Trader Joe's so visiting it was one of the items on her weekend bucket list.

I have never done an aisle-by-aisle check to see what kinds of things Trader Joe's has, so I made a point to do it this time around. During my previous visits to the store over the past 20 years, I have always skipped looking around and made a beeline for only two things: the frozen microwavable chicken tikka masala and the Trader Joe's brand frozen mac and cheese (it is SO FREAKING GOOD)!
