Video of 2011 Incident Raises Questions About Security on School Buses
A report in Friday morning's Yakima Herald-Republic has parents and students talking about school safety -- especially on buses.
The paper's story includes a November 2011 video obtained through Tamaki Law that shows a female Franklin Middle School student (who was 13 at the time) being attacked by another female student. The bus driver, meantime, offers a few mild verbal warnings, but does not intervene or stop the bus.
“Inexplicably," a news release from Tamki Law says, "the bus driver did nothing to stop the brutal beating."
The law firm has filled a lawsuit against the Yakima School District on behalf of the student who suffered the attack. The other girl was later charged with fourth-degree assault.
The Yakima School District is not commenting on the incident or the lawsuit.
Take a look at the video and tell us what you think. Should the driver have done more? Is the school district negligent?
