Yakima Drivers See Detour on 64th Avenue

Welcome to a new month as city crews continue road and signal work this summer. City crews are busy with work on a popular section of 64th Avenue forcing the closure of the road  Monday and Tuesday, August 1st and 2nd, for a street/stormwater project.

You've probably seen the signs in the area over the past week

If you've been driving in the area over the last week you've seen all the signs. City officials say the project will close 64th Avenue between Tieton Drive and Nob Hill Boulevard during scheduled work hours of 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. Detour routes will be in place.
The work is continuation of a stormwater manhole repair project from earlier this week.

Work continues on the Nelson Dam removal and replacement project and will result in temporary road closures over the next few weeks.

The next closure of South Naches happens later this week

Work scheduled to continue the next four weeks includes pouring concrete for a new fish screen structure. The work requires temporary closure of South Naches Road at Powerhouse Road. This closure will start at 6:00 am and end by 5:00 pm, Wednesday August 3rd.
As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

Be careful driving in the area with many workers on the street

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour. During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur. Drivers should use alternate routes until project completion.
