Yakima Humane Society in Desperate Need of the Communities Help!

Were you aware we have an overpopulation issue for animals in our area and beyond? There are Yakima Valley residents that are leaving puppies and kittens in garbage bags on the side of the road. Leaving them to die, out of sight out of mind, I guess? Please don't turn a blind eye, help spread the informative word on how to cut back on this problem that seems to be taking over, everywhere.

PSA: We have had 8 dumped/abandoned animals left at YHS in the past 2 weeks. From being turned loose at the door, left in kennels on the sidewalk to walking into the lobby cussing out staff and leaving them. We are 100% full. This is felt by shelters and rescues across WA. Please assist us by passing the word that we are at max capacity. Thank you.

What Can We All Do?

The number one thing you can do as a pet owner is to spay and neuter the pets you already own, please. If you let them out to roam, your animals are most likely doing it like they do on the discovery channel, help everyone by doing your part. There are multiple options, on a sliding pay scale so please take the amount it will cost into account when you are thinking about adding fur babies to your family. If you don't fall into the category of pet owner, you can donate funds to assist others who are in need and want to spay and neuter their pets.

The number two thing is microchipping your animal AND getting that microchip activated. There are SO many animals who have homes that aren't reunited with their family because of this. Yes, there is a cost involved, there is a cost involved in everything but as pet owners, it's important to make sure you are checking off as many of the boxes as possible.

The third thing is if you are needing to surrender your animal, for whatever reason. PLEASE plan ahead. Our local resources get bombarded with people who are being kicked out of their place tomorrow, you knew this was happening. Please plan ahead so a foster family can be set up. HERE is a fantastic spot to rehome your pet, approved by the Yakima Humane Society.

The fourth thing is if you are able to be a foster parent to a furry friend, there are multiple places you can sign-up to volunteer and beyond. HERE is the form to fill out for the Yakima Humane Society or you can fill it out in person as well.

The fifth thing is to spread this information to others as often as you can! Share, share, share. This isn't a Yakima Valley problem, this is an everywhere problem. Unfortunately, it is pretty bad in the Yakima Valley so if you want to keep our pets safe, we ALL need to get on board with this.
