Traditionally, Father's Day is kind of treated as a 'throwaway' holiday. It's a day where you honor your father for all he has done for you. This usually means he gets a new necktie and a homemade certificate for a free massage. But this year Father's Day fell on the same day as my daughter's ballet performance.
Every year the Children's Miracle Network elects one 'miracle child' to represent their respective state. This year, Yakima's own Camery Broers is representing Washington State which includes a trip to Orlando, Florida and she'll visit Washington D.C.
Every year Gymnastics Plus and Kids Castle open their doors to kids with autism to let them roam free, play on the equipment and be amongst their friends. This day is one of the highlights of my son's year. I can't thank Gymnastics Plus for doing this.
'Tis the season of giving and Children's Village is doing something fun along with Dutch Bros. From November 25th through December 3rd, for every donated toy you drop off at Dutch Bros. Coffee on 65th and Nob Hill, they'll hook you up with a free coffee of your choice!
My son Jaron, as you may or may not know, has autism. Last year we went through a horse therapy course at Pegasus Project and he absolutely loved it. We started back up this week and, as you can tell by this picture, he was more than overjoyed to be back!
Our local Children's Village hosts a Christmas-type party every year that features arts and crafts, games and Santa is there with gifts for everyone. My autistic son, who doesn't like to be around strangers or like to be held, found something about Santa that made him pull up a seat right by his side.
