5 sparkling WA cities you have to visit once you move here
When I moved to Washington State in 2002, I wasn't expecting to live here for more than a couple of years. I moved for a new job, and it was the expectation that I would get my feet wet in my new career and then branch off to other, bigger cities.
Fast forward some twenty-two years later, I am still here and thriving. I have a 13-year-old child, a blossoming career, and a great crew of treasured friends whom I look at as family.
That being said, I am still shocked that I really haven't ventured out to explore the state of Washington. There are so many cities that I haven't seen, and I can't wait to take my daughter on road trips so that we can visit them together.
Once any new resident moves to Washington, one of the first road trips they will likely take is to see the city of Seattle. I've been to Seattle many times; it is my absolute favorite place to visit. I have ridden the Monorail, taken the elevator up to the top floor of the Space Needle, gotten lost on the one-way streets of downtown, and had French fries stolen by sea gulls on the Pier.
The other cities on my Washington State bucket list that I think every resident should see at least once in their lifetime include:
Bellingham
- It has a hippie reputation, but I've also heard it's quite lovely and peaceful to live here. Locals love going to Whatcom Falls for a quick nature moment.
Spokane
- Come for the shopping, stay for a great underground music concert at The Knitting Factory!
Blaine
- This Canadian-border town has a "bridge" that connects our two countries. I want to go just so I can dip one toe in Canada!
Walla Walla
- I first heard of this small town when a resident was featured on The Real World. She bragged about the sweet onions that are grown here. She was right; they are delicious! (There are also some great wineries here, too.)
San Juan Islands
- Take a ferry ride out to paradise. Visit Friday Harbor and some of the other island pit stops for a glorious getaway. Even Oprah once owned a home out here!
