It's not every day that a retail shop in Yakima turns 50 years old, so it's something special to celebrate one of the greats. Fiddlesticks, located at the corner of 16th & Lincoln in Yakima, has been in business since 1976. Owners are celebrating with a major birthday sale that ends on Saturday, October 10th.

I had to stop by the store today because on the way to work, I noticed their cute mural sign on the window. They sell unique gifts for practically every room in the home, plus gifts and clothes for babies, ladies apparel, jewelry, and candles.

A daily drawing for 50.00 gift certificate to use inside the store.
Free popcorn!
50% off any regularly priced pink merchandise.
Special clothes and shoes brought in just for the birthday sale.

Humble Beginnings for Fiddlesticks Began with Two Friends with a Dream

The store's original co-owner, Kathy Myers says that she and the other original co-owner, Jeanie McWhorter, "started brainstorming about opening a store in Yakima" more than 50 years ago.

"Jeanie envisioned a shop filled with home accessories and gifts," Kathy writes, "while I imagined a unique fabric store offering fun fabrics, classes and project ideas. We got together several times to talk about it, and then one of us said, “Why don’t we do both — in one store?!”

My favorite spot in the store are the seasonal displays. I love this one they've done for Halloween.

There is also have a section I love that is just for the PNW tree huggers and Sasquatch fans like me.

The most popular sections in the store include the baby zone and the dressing room area, but honestly, you could spend hours inside and find something to ooh and ahh about, like this watercolor notecard set I spotted on a shelf near a window.
