Q13 in Seattle is reporting that the Mercer Island School District is banning the popular recess game tag from schools as it may cause emotional distress. Wait, what?

Yep, it's true. And what's more, parents didn't know about it until the kids told their teachers. If it were a decision up for public vote that'd be one thing, but just to ban tag without asking anyone -- what do you think?

An argument might be that they want kids to keep their hands to themselves, but the school even encourages joining sports.

Apparently, many parents in that school district are a little peeved. They say kids should be able to play in a free environment and that games like tag help with communication and social skills -- not to mention the obvious health benefits of physical activity.

One mother went as far as to create a Facebook group in support of keeping tag at schools. She stated that without playing games like tag, recess will be spent sitting around talking about video games. That's the last thing she wants.

What do you think? How would you react if Yakima-area schools banned tag at recess? Tell us in the comments below.
