It was a sad day in Yakima when we lost our two Shopko locations. They've been staple shopping centers for back to school clothes, home decor, prescription glasses, electronics and a lot more. On a personal note, I loved shopping there because being a taller, bigger dude they actually carried my pants size and a wide variety of shoes in my size. I was heartbroken to see them leave, but part of the store -- though not all of it -- is coming to Union Gap.

If you got your glasses from there, the good news is Shopko Optical is coming to 2529 Main St., opening Nov. 21.

Russ Steinhorst, Shopko Optical CEO:

“The opening of this new center is a terrific opportunity to remind the residents of Union Gap that we are here for them,” Steinhorst said. “Dr. Robert Rudman will be the optometrist ready to welcome all patients and fulfill their eye care needs.”

So as it's not the full stores we all loved, but it's a start. This is fantastic news if you were one to get your glasses from the pros there. I'll welcome them with open arms. Or maybe open eyes.
