Washington State Employees Are Leaving to Help Hurricane Helene Victims in Georgia
A friend of mine who works for the Washington State Department of Transportation and is a volunteer firefighter told me that some employees are heading out to help the victims of Hurricane Helene in states like Florida and Georgia.
It's not just firefighters who are joining the league of people heading down to Georgia to assist with relief efforts. Doctors and canine search teams are going, too, as King5 News reports.
One of the teams just left Tacoma to head down there today. The plan is for the team to stay and help for about two weeks then head back home to Washington.
I have family living in Tennessee and friends of mine who know that I have family there have been asking me if anyone I know has been affected. Fortunately, my family lives in Nashville and southern Tennessee, so they haven't been impacted by much except for rain showers. The bulk of the damage in Tennessee has been in East Tennessee, which is a hop, skip, and a two-hour drive from Georgia.
Dolly Parton has jumped in to help her hometown region and other areas affected by Hurricane Helene.
She has donated over a million dollars to help out relief efforts in Tennessee. I just love her! Walmart recently announced they are going to partner with her to supply even more funds to assist local charities down South.
HOW CAN YOU HELP HURRICANE HELENE RELIEF EFFORTS FROM YOUR HOME
If you live in Washington and wish there was some way you could help hurricane victims without having to head to the damage itself, here are three ways you can lend a helping hand.
Donate Blood to a local blood bank
Steer clear from believing and spreading rumors about FEMA's relief response
Donate directly to charities in the affected states who are on the ground providing relief assistance directly to residents
