Earlier this year, we asked local residents in Yakima about the restaurants they missed, the ones that recently closed permanently.

There was sadness in the air in the comment section as people reminisced about their favorite Mexican restaurants, fast food dishes, and gourmet eateries that were no longer around.

If you've lived in Yakima for at least a couple of years, you've probably dined at one of these dearly departed restaurants and diners.

Thankfully, we have some new places to go for great meals that soften the blow of losing some of our favorite gastric bygones.

Eats & Elixirs in Yakima

Owned by a team that included a MasterChef contestant and gourmet chefs from the Pacific Northwest and the continent of Africa, Eats & Elixirs was the spot to go for a unique brunch and cocktail combination.

Although Eats & Elixirs closed its restaurant doors in 2023, the chefs behind the magic still offer catering, pop-up restaurants, food club memberships, and participate in food competitions.

I think what I'll miss the most about Norm's is the historic location it was housed in and it's lobster mac & cheese!

El Porton in Union Gap

Fans of this restaurant were pretty devastated when the building caught on fire a couple of years ago. Owners of El Porton in Union Gap had hoped to rebuild, but they announced permanent plans to close the location in 2023.

Sonic Drive-In in Yakima

A fast-food restaurant that had servers dishing out to-go orders on roller skates, Sonic's is still missed by many today. We're still trying to figure out why there is electricity on the premises and the lights still come on at night, even though nobody is there and the property is gated off from the public. I guess we'll have to stay tuned!

Sea Galley in Union Gap

When Sea Galley announced it was closing forever and that the building would be knocked down in order to bring a Texas Roadhouse to Union Gap, customers were sidelined and excited at the same time.

Sea Galley had a catchy commercial jingle and a happy hour that was very popular. Plus, the servers were some of the kindest and fun people I've seen in a locally owned place!

Residents in Yakima have been yearning for a Texas Roadhouse for many years, jealous that Tri-Cities has had one. It looks like the construction on the new building is progressing quickly. We might just get a grand opening before the year is out!
