Many schools across the nation celebrate the March 2 birthday of Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) with fun activities. My daughters go to Whitney Elementary School and they invite parents for free breakfast and a chance to visit their children's classrooms while their kids read them stories in their pajamas.

It's fun for me because it gives me a chance to see what my children's school day is like at the beginning. They've done it all before, so they're already in the routine of going to class, putting their backpacks and coats in the proper places and going from there.

We have two daughters at Whitney, so my wife and I each followed one to their respective classroom. My 4-year-old went straight to the library and showed me where they are learning how to type. There was the option to read Dr. Seuss books, but I didn't want to cut into that learning time. She took me on a quick tour of the library and let her at it so I could join my other daughter.

I found her, my wife and another classmate all sitting on the floor there, the kids in their pajamas or in Dr. Seuss-inspired costumes. My daughter's friend was reading her book to my wife and kid. It was cute to see.

We didn't stay long, just long enough for a couple of books. All in all, a fun experience.

This event, like most events, was provided by the boosters of the school. Always a good cause to remember for events like this.
