The Yakima School District wants to ensure no child goes hungry when school is in session, even if school is on a two-hour delay. If school is delayed two hours, breakfast is still served, but at a two-hour delay as well which is 10:15 a.m. for elementary school.

Getting your kids ready for school is always a daunting task. One topic that will come up is to make sure your children are up-to-date with their immunizations as the Yakima schools won't accept children without their shots updated. Fortunately, there's a way to get those immunizations for a superb discount. Same with getting sports physicals.

My daughters go to Whitney Elementary School and they invite parents for free breakfast and a chance to visit their children's classrooms while their kids read them stories in their pajamas.

If a child had perfect attendance, he or she was awarded a free bike, helmet and a party at the end of the year. Well this year, they're bringing the program back!
