It's my first time in a house, with a yard and I am pumped to start gardening, making the yard my own, creating meals from what I've grown and displaying plants and flowers in the house. I'm feeling more prepared than ever so I've started a journal to keep notes on how and what I am up to in hopes that with trial and error amazing things will go on in the next few years. #greenthumbsunite

In the Yakima, WA area we need to wait until about mid-March or after the last frost to plant most things in the ground, so I've been drawing a layout of where things could possibly go, making lists of the seeds I'm interested in purchasing, getting ready to make little greenhouses and learning about composting. There is a lot so each week I will touch on a few items.

The house came with roses and lavender. I am so curious to find out what happens once Spring hits again. When we first moved in I went a little wild with cutting and drying said lavender for myself and friends. Will it grow back better than ever?

My Father-In-Law schooled me a bit on how to trim back rose bushes before winter hits, there's maintenance to keep them short and healthy. The neighbors across the way have it going on so I am pumped to get mine looking more like fat and happy little rose bushes instead of super tall and thin rose bushes, lots more to come as the warm weather gets closer. You can do so much with roses!

I even saw a video where you can take a potato cut it in half, gouge a bit out, fill it with honey and plant it in the ground with something covering it to make a tiny green house. This is what it looks like so far. Not sure what will happen next but it's green so that's a start.

I just put in an order for peonies from a farm in Toppenish that has been around for 100 years. The color of magenta just like the roses I'm trying to transplant. So excited and a little nervous, what if I plant them wrong and where's the best spot to plant them? I do know at least six hours of sunlight and I will find out more this weekend.

We are in that sweet spot of time where it's still too cold to get started, roots will die if you plant them now but the prep is real. You can create little greenhouses for seeds but that will be for next week. All I will say is start saving your cardboard, paper waste, big plastic bottles and egg cartons for future use. No sense in purchasing items you have laying around the house. So much to do and enough time to figure out what exactly you want to do with it I wish you the best of luck and if you have tips and tricks please don't hesitate to reach out on social media @sarahjthedj, the more the merrier :)
