You Can Identify Central WA Trees Easily By Their Fall Leaf Colors
There is a lot you can tell about a leaf by its color when it falls in autumn. While most of us might look at a pile of leaves on the sidewalks and curbs and think, "Geez, oh Pete's!", some of us think, "Ooh, I wonder what colors those leaves are over there!"

What Autumn Leaf Colors Reveal About Local Trees
In my neighborhood, there are a lot of deep red leaves, which is a sign that Maple trees abound.
If you happen upon a pile of slightly orange leaves, you are in an Elm tree neighborhood.
Interestingly, there are hundreds of street names and buildings in our neighborhoods that give away what color the fall leaves will turn, like Lake Aspen Apartments and Mapleway Rd in Yakima which will bear yellow-green autumn leaves, Birch Tree St in Kennewick which will have triangular yellow fall leaves, and Oak St in Sunnyside, which will be covered with pointy fall leaves in beautiful shades of red and maroon.

How Neighborhood Street Names Match Their Fall Foliage
I just checked my neighborhood and it's not surprising that the streets on my block are named after trees, too, although they are named after Spruce and Pine trees. There are lots of pine cones and spruce leaves on the ground.
I love this time of year!
