Keep wearing your mask indoors but it comes off next month. That's the message from Governor Jay Inslee Thursday when he announced the state indoor mask mandate will end on March 21. That means masks won't be required for kids in school and child care facilities next month. But until then the mask mandate continues.

Not vaccinated? You won't need proof of vaccine after March 1

If you're not vaccinated you'll be happy to know that Washington Gov. Jay Inslee also announced Thursday that starting on March 1 verification of a vaccine or negative test proof won't be required for large events like concerts. Masks however will still be required in prisons and jails, long-term care and health care facilities. Even though there won't be a statewide requirement after March 1 private businesses and local governments still have the option to require masks for customers or employees.

Remember when the mask mandate started in June of 2020?

The masking mandate for indoor settings was first imposed in the state in June of 2020. Now March of 2022 looks like the end date to masking indoors in Washington State.
The governor on Thursday displayed a chart which says COVID-19 hospitalizations are 20 per 100,000 people. He has a goal of 5 per per 100,000 people. That's when he says things can truly return to normal.

A change in policy happens Friday, February 18

Beginning Friday the Washington State outdoor mask mandate for large events ends. Elective surgeries can also resume at state hospitals Friday as well.
