Oregon Is Considering Dropping the Voting Age to 16
The bill is being backed by The Bus Project, an organization that encourages civic volunteerism.
The goal is to amend the Oregon Constitution to allow 16 as the official age to vote in Oregon. If the law passes, Oregon would be the first state to allow 16-year-olds to vote.
If the proposal clears the Legislature, it would go to voters in the 2020 General Election. It might surprise you that 13 other states -- including Washington -- have tried unsuccessfully in the past decade and a half to pass a lower voting age.
