The American Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter for West Valley residents affected by the flooding at 72nd Avenue between Mead Avenue and Nob Hill Boulevard in Yakima. The shelter opened Tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ, 100 N. 72nd Ave.

The Red Cross will provide shelter and food to the affected residents. According to the Red Cross supervisor on site, the agency is striving to provide a home-like environment at the church, which has bathrooms but no showers. The building can house 100 people.

If you are affected by the West Valley flooding and are seeking shelter, you can register at the church. If you or anyone you know needs help, contact the Yakima Chapter of the Red Cross, 509-594-0016.
