On Wednedsay morning, I saw a story online at the Yakima Herald reporting that some KKK fliers found were on lawns and driveways in Ellensburg, WA. I dismissed the story as just one of those things I care about that likely no one else around here will, and kept on going about my day. Fast forward to two days later, and the story has now made national news. I've even seen some of my Facebook friends from Seattle posting about it.

Fortunately, the police department in the City of Ellensburg has come out to harshly rebuke the KKK and their stinking fliers and rocks!

Fortunately, when I peeked at the comment section on their post, I did not find a lot of KKK sympathizers. Some of the comments on the Facebook post of KOMO News, on the other hand, I found to be honestly ridiculous and ignorant.

The above post contains comments that dismiss those KKK fliers as nothing more than a few rascally kids being kids, as well as a bunch of comments from people trying to argue that the KKK is on par with "those racist Black Lives Matter protesters". Um, no, Black Lives Matter protesters are not in any way, shape or form on the same level as the KKK. When people say that, I just want to grab them by the collar and shout, in the adorable words of that little 3-year old YouTube star, "Listen, Linda! Honey, listen!"

Perhaps you don't know the history of the KKK. Perhaps you don't know that it was created to solve the "problem" of showing those pesky Black people* that they are and never will be equal or superior to people with "white" skin. The KKK bonded together right after the soldiers came home from the Civil War. Prominent generals and soldiers commiserated together (probably while drinking whiskey from a rusty tin cup, eating canned beans, and farting around a camp fire). One of them probably said (make sure you say it with a twang in your head), "Now if there was only a way we could get rid of those darn tootin' (insert the plural of a bad word that starts with the letter N)!"

The plan they came up with was to drag those rough old 100-count bed sheets that they grabbed off their wives' laundry lines, cut two holes in it for the eyes, put the sheets over their head and cover up their whole bodies, keep it pointy, light a torch, grab the Confederate flag, a horse and go raise a ruckus!

The KKK anonymously got away with terrorizing, harassing, and murdering Black families, for no other reason than because the melanin in their skin was poppin' just a bit too much. The KKK was created in Pulaski, TN, a place where my father's kinfolk were born. These Confederate-flag loving vets left their mark of terror by throwing burning bricks into windows, and burning crosses in the yards of former Black slaves, sharecroppers, and others. The Black men that they scared away enough to move out of their neighborhoods (like my grandfather James and his brother, Charles) were lynched and in some cases, tarred and feathered. Perhaps people should look into the Tulsa Riots of 1921. The KKK terrorists' legacy lasted up until the late 1960's, but yes, it is still out there, alive and kicking--even in the Pacific Northwest! They later expanded their targets to Asians, Jews and gays, never wanting to make anyone else feeling left out of their hit list!

I could go on and on but I won't. It's too tiring. I'm tired of having to educate people on the history of the KKK or why I find the Confederate flag a symbol of hate or why I had to turn down a job offer in Boise when I was told that "my kind is not welcomed there". And I'm really tired of explaining to Facebook friends and co-workers that when people are telling you that Black lives matter, the word "TOO" is ALWAYS implied, not the word "ONLY". (Duh.) I finally just stopped commenting back on people's Facebook posts. I will let someone else out there fill people in with the facts. Miss me with that mess!

My soul is tired from letting all of the ignorant hatred going on in the world slide off my back and not bother me. Does anybody else want to wear my Superwoman cape for a while?
