Two Yakima Drivers Involved in Separate DUI Crashes Tuesday
Yakima Police say a driver who they believe was intoxicated crashed his vehicle into a power pole 3200 block of Englewood Avenue Tuesday night. The 24-year-old Yakima man was seriously injured and taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital then transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he's currently being treated for life threatening injuries.
People called police after seeing the car speeding by homes
Authorities were called to the area after getting reports of a vehicle traveling at a high speed. When they arrived they found the crash scene. They say the 24-year-old driver was traveling eastbound on Englewood Avenue when he lost control of the car at 34th Avenue striking a nearby power pole.
The driver was unconscious and taken to the hospital where he's being treated today. The crash was reported at about 10:22 pm Tuesday.
A second DUI crash was reported a short time after the first crash Tuesday
A short time later at 11:53 pm Yakima Police attempted to stop a driver for a traffic infraction in the area of 1st Avenue and I street. The vehicle fled. A chase was started but then called off after it became to dangerous.
The suspect vehicle eventually crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of 16th Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
No one was injured in the victim vehicle
No one was injured in the other vehicle but the 30-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene. A female passenger in his vehicle was injured and taken to a Yakima Hospital. The suspect was arrested for driving under the influence and eluding police. He's being held in the Yakima county jail. Police say he had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest at the time of the crash.
