It doesn't get much better than those who take care of those that can't take care of themselves and I believe there's a special spot in Heaven for those that turn their attention to abandoned and wild animals.

It's my first Wet Nose Wednesday, dedicated to the different rescue organizations around town and it goes to Southern Heart Animal Rescue, a 501 3c non-profit organization that focuses on our feline population. There's plenty to go around so feel free to message your favorite organization to highlight in the future.

Southern Heart Animal Rescue

Can be found on Facebook, Instagram, and Petfinder. Also if you're in the market to adopt you can find up to five of Southern Hearts Rescue's inside the cat habitat at Petco in Union Gap.

We focus on abandoned and mistreated cats and kitties, with a heavy focus on rescuing those no one else will. No dogs currently, but searching for foster homes to begin rescuing dogs again and even more kitties. Family run, everyone in my family helps and I have always said Southern Heart is a family as a whole so every volunteer, foster, and adopter becomes part of it

I met Nina while helping host Kids Club at Valley Mall, you might have met her as well and didn't even realize it. Last year she hand baked dog treats for the drive-through Kids Clubs and I thought it was just the sweetest. It takes a village to make a difference so here's a thought. The feral cat situation is pretty wild but by getting your cat spayed or neutered you can help drop the number by 70%, pretty impressive if you're down.

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
