Beware of Heat Stroke: Extreme Weather Advisory Issued for Yakima

If you live in the city limits of Yakima, I certainly hope that you have a working air conditioner in your place. We are expecting a heat wave to strike the city, which is certainly not uncommon around here. It doesn't matter if you've lived here for 20 years or 20 minutes, you will come to expect some intense heat.

Last summer, my air conditioner died. It is one of those old-school air conditioners that was built back in the 60s. It lasted some 40+ years by a wild stroke of luck, however, last summer, its poor little heart just gave out. I have been sweltering ever since. I told my landlord manager about it but I suppose a good air conditioner these days is hard to find.

Is Yakima In For An Extreme Heatwave?

The National Weather Service has issued a heatwave warning advisory for Yakima for Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

Expect the heat to turn its dial up tomorrow (Tuesday, July 12) to maximum strength beginning from noon until 9 o'clock on Tuesday night.

Some things you can do to keep your home cool during the heat wave advisory include keeping your curtains closed. If you can get those "blackout" curtains, I have noticed that they keep that extreme heat away the best.

Heck, I might even pull an Al Bundy and bring my lawn chair to hang out by the frozen vegetables! It sure beats sitting in my hot house melting away in this Yakima heat!

Another thing you can do is stock up on some Otter Pops! That cold slushie feels great in your mouth and cools down your body, too.

One last tip I'll give before I take off for a cool shower, is, well, hey, wait a second. Taking cool showers helps you fight the heat wave, too. The tip I wanted to give you lastly though, is to go to the freezer aisles in the grocery store, open up one of the doors and stick your face inside for a few seconds.
