Yakima Valley Would You Go on a Cruise? #TBT When I Worked on One

It's been 13 years since I posted the below on Facebook

13 years ago I was still working with Norwegian Cruise Lines. I had flown to France and discovered my luggage was nowhere to be found, learned the importance of why you learn basics in other languages if you're going to visit, and purchased fancy underwear in Malta out of necessity because it was all I could find while I waited for my bags.

I was a mover and a shaker and about to start a new position as a Crew Activities Coordinator. Basically the Cruise Director for the workers. I was set to book tour excursions, decide on themed parties to host, participate in karaoke, set up games in the crew bar, host award ceremonies and so much more. It all sounded amazing as I set foot on board and I couldn't wait to get started.

I knew no one and no one knew me and I was about to be in for the shock of a lifetime. The first evening, almost everyone goes into the crew bar to get to know each other, it was my first time on a giant international cruise ship where I was supposed to keep the party started. The lights were off and everyone was dancing, grinding on each other in the way you would on a tropical island. It was feral and I quickly realized I was in over my head.

I had to escape to my office to hide the fact I was going to burst into tears. How was I supposed to act cool when I felt SO out of my element? I sucked it up and embraced the adventure as I hope you do too. Cruising is an excellent way to see the world!

There are still Crew Member groups I follow on social media and from behind the scenes, it looks like ships are still traveling all over the place. I've seen the commercials inviting passengers to travel the world on Carnival and Princesses cruises so I really wanted to know.
