From Trolley Stops to Hidden Gardens: Quiet Yakima Escapes

Parks

I find parks to be very soothing when I want to take a few minutes to recharge my spirit. It doesn't even have to be because I'm feeling stressed out; I just love being surrounded by the beauty of nature without having to hike up a dang hill!

I didn't realize it, but I have not one, not two, but three parks on my list of places to get a quiet break in Yakima. I usually go there on a lunch break.

Neighborhoods

A walk around the block sometimes hits the spot if I need to cool down after having an argument, reading a crazy email, or going through a really rough day. If it gets really bad, I'll go walk in someone else's neighborhood--a change of scenery jolts me out of my bad mood.

Hidden Treasures in Plain Sight

I also like to find unexpected and hidden treasure troves of serenity, like the old city trolley bench I found. It's literally down the street from my house and I noticed in one day during a --you guessed it--walk around the block.

Libraries

You can also find some peace and quiet inside a library, but I have a very particular one that I go to when I don't want to be disturbed by others (West Valley Library). I have to make sure it's not on the weekend or during a storytime hour for the little kids, though, because those little jokers are loud as HECK.
