June is Pride Month

Yakima Pride hosted Rainbow Prom this past Saturday at the Yakima Valley Museum and as one of the chaperones of the event I have to say I was blown away by the 70+ beautiful individuals who chose to spend their evening in a space reserved for inclusion.

This weekend was a pretty awesome weekend! My friends, my brother and I all went to Rainbow Prom that was hosted by Yakima Pride. It was nice to see a ton of others for the LGBTQ+ Community, especially the allies for said community. I wanted to say thank you to Yakima Pride for hosting such an exciting event and getting Anita B. and Sinclair to do the performances for us! - K.P

There was dancing, a drag show, sparkling cider, cupcakes, pizza and a lip synching competition that was super impressive. The winner of the lip synching competition, nailed Whitney's Houston's I Will Always Love You and was gifted with a gorgeous Rainbow Crown that was created by artist Victor Mucio, 10 crowns were made and can be purchased to help support an organization that helps the trans community in need.

The trans youth that won gave a little speech about the struggles of growing up in this valley, being bullied and how happy they were to be a part of this event. These events are so important and must continue to happen, often.

Support is what we all need, love should have no limits and family isn't only defined by blood.
