‘Worm in the Sushi?’ Popular Seattle Sushi Bar Temporarily Closes After Keith Lee Visits
The sushi bar says it's not a worm, but I watched the video, and SOMETHING definitely appeared to be wiggling on the tail end of that sushi!
I'm gonna tell my kids this is the "gold dress" of the 2020s. Is it a worm? Is it not a worm?
WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS...
Popular internet food critic Keith Lee took a trip to Seattle recently. I have been hoping and wishing and praying that he would eventually make his way over to Washington State, and it came true!
It was exciting to see which restaurants he chose to review for his 16.7 million followers on TikTok. He visited an Ethiopian restaurant near Lake City, a duck barbeque place in Chinatown, a cider place in Pike Place, and a sushi bar in Belltown.
The news of Keith's food review of that sushi bar, FOB Sushi, has gone viral. Even KIRO7 News covered this story.
My only gripe is that he didn't come to YAKIMA to try our delicious (and original) Cheese Zombies!
Keith Lee starts off his foodie review of FOB Sushi (2101 4th Ave, Seattle) with a shot of the restaurant from the street view.
Here's a view of the buffet-style sushi you can choose from. FOB Sushi sells sushi by the pound.
The first piece of sushi that Keith Lee tries is Salmon Nigiri. He rates it 5 out of 10 stars.
Next up, Keith tries spicy salmon belly drizzled with chili oil. He gives it a 6.5/10.
Keith's next sushi up for review is yellowtail nigiri ("That's way fresher, way snappier!"), followed by a piece of hamachi (a smaller piece of yellowtail tuna) with salt and pepper.
I'm not saying it's a worm, but something appeared to be wiggling on the end of that piece of hamachi!
FOB Sushi Bar released a statement on Instagram saying that it was NOT a worm; it was just a piece of the yellowtail tuna being squeezed by the chopsticks. Keith, however, seems to disagree with that sentiment as per his last email as per his response to FOB's statement, which I noted in a story about it from King5 News.
The restaurant has erred on the side of caution though, and they temporarily closed both of their locations, no doubt to do some self-induced health checks. The last thing they (or any other restaurant) would want is for the public to think they have actual worms in their sushi!
Some FOB Sushi fans on Reddit are wondering what will happen to the restaurant(s) next.
Keith Lee did, however, end his TikTok review of FOB Sushi by saying the restaurant is "HEAVEN!" if you love sushi.
I only like California Rolls, but after watching Keith Lee's video review, I hope to visit FOB Sushi on my next trip to Seattle once they re-open. My daughter and I also want to visit a sushi bar in Seattle that has rotating sushi on a conveyor belt, like Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in Bellevue (266 116th Ave NE) and Sushi Zone in Bothell (10024 Main St).
Watch the video of Keith Lee's FOB Sushi foodie review, then take our poll below because I want to know if YOU think it's a wiggling worm!
