Los Chilaquiles Yakima Is Taking Over the Old El Mirador Express Restaurant Location
It's the end of an era. I've been watching them repaint the place, the old El Mirador Express on Walnut Ave, that's been a part of the southwestern Yakima neighborhood for decades. They just put up a new sign last week letting the whole world know it's a totally different restaurant, Los Chilaquiles.
It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday El Mirador Express
Nooooo! This restaurant change is big deal to our community, I know I'm not the only one that's feeling kinda sad to see El Mirador Express go away. My friends and I really loved their super cheap happy hour specials; it's one of the few things we had left to enjoy in today's economy, ha!
I don't speak for everyone, but I will say a lot of us are going miss the essence of this place, now that it's been covered up with a new vanilla colored coat of paint. (That still won't keep us from eating there. I bet you the food is going to be "tha BOMB!", as the kids say.

A New Look for an Old Restaurant Space
The building at 418 W Walnut Ave has been the same authentic Mexican terracotta hacienda architectural style for decades. It was the original location for El Mirador before they expanded to El Mirador 2 in Terrace Heights.
The reason I loved this building out of most others found in Yakima is that it has the most beautiful and interesting front door I've ever seen in my life. Thankfully, the new restaurant is keeping the door!
The front door is heavy to open but worth the effort to get through it!
A New Mexican Brunch Spot Is Opening Soon in Yakima
Brunch has become the new "It Girl" of Yakima. We've got our tried-and-true beloved brunch spots, like Waffles Caffe, and recently, new places have been popping up, like Brunch Bliss & Bubbles (910 Summitview Ave).
Los Chilaquiles sign says it's going to be a "Mexican Brunch" restaurant. There's a deck on the side of the building for those spring and summer brunch dates.
The name of the restaurant itself is that of a traditional Mexican breakfast meal, the leftover tortillas that you can pour some tasty (and spicy if you wanna) rojo or verde sauce over it.

No word yet on whether this restaurant is owned by the same owners of El Mirador, in other words, just with a new restaurant concept with a new look and a new name.
The Washington State Department of Revenue lists El Mirador Express' business license as still active until the end of October 2026. I'll do some more digging around to find out the scoop of who might be the true owners of Los Chilaquiles, so stay tuned.
