Sneak Peek Inside MOD Pizza and What It’s All About

MOD Pizza opens its doors on Tuesday, March 10 in Yakima. I was invited to check it out a day early during their 'soft open' where they're open for friends and family. Spoiler Alert: This place is awesome!

This is my first time inside a MOD Pizza, though I have seen them in Seattle. Instead of your traditional-style pizza place, this is almost like 'Subway-style' where you place your order, then they go over all of the topping down the line. You can load up as much as you want without any additional fees! That's right - a cheese pizza costs the same price as a meat lovers or of one of your own creation -- about $6. They also have dessert pizzas, bread sticks and a variety of drinks from milkshakes to soft drinks to beer.

They also have gluten-free options for the crust.

I got to the front and placed my order for a few. I got a standard cheese pizza, I made one with sausage, mushrooms, black olives and three different kinds of cheeses (mozzarella, gorgonzola and asiago) and I got a Hawaiian-style pizza. Hawaiian-style pizza is a little like me, a little meaty, a little fruity. I also grabbed the strawberry tart pizza with a chocolate shake.

The pizza is the perfect size for one. I couldn't even finish it so now I'm looking forward to breakfast. The true testament to any restaurant is wondering how my three children like it. I'll eat just about anywhere, but my kids are the picky eaters. Far picker than I am and I'm a really picky eater. Here's what my kids said.

Laura (9 years old): I'm already on my second slice. It's really good!

Lily (7 years old): Yummy-yummy-yum!

Jaron (6 years old): I want more pizza please?

My son, Jaron, has autism and isn't very verbal and, when he is, he won't tell you if he likes something or not, he'll just accept it or dismiss it. The fact that he wanted more is very positive.

All in all, it was a great experience and am looking forward to going back.
