As we head into September, things are heating up in the Yakima Valley with temperatures into the mid and upper 90's this week. In fact, forecasters are calling for darn near 100-degree temps on Friday and Saturday as we approach the Labor Day Weekend.

So, with such warmth heading our way, I don't know if it makes much sense to look ahead into what may lay in store for us this winter - but the Farmer's Almanac has its predictions for Winter - and depending upon where you live - it could be a snowy cold winter.

“Based on our time-tested weather formula, the forecast for the upcoming winter looks a lot different from last year, quite divided with some very intense cold snaps and snowfall,” states editor Peter Geiger, Philom.

The Map of the US shows a wide variety of predictions, everything from massive winter storms to drought. What we see in the Pacific Northwest looks fairly, well, boring. Mild & Dry. Now, I'm not complaining, because, for me, that's the best news I could get. I've always been a big fan of plenty of snow in the mountains and smooth sailing on the road.

But a little closer look into the Farmer's Almanac website offers some confusing if not conflicting information with what their map says. It says it's calling for a 'Snowy Comeback'.

The Great Lakes region will get its fair share of snow but expect above-normal snowfall if you live in the western Dakotas, northern portions of Colorado and Utah, as well as Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and central and eastern sections of Washington and Oregon.

I do know one thing: with all of the shortages of things we've experienced this year, such as toilet paper and disinfectant wipes and common sense - stocking up on essentials NOW might just be the best idea, no matter what kind of winter we have.
