10 Popular Celebrity Workouts (That Gen Z Probably Knows Nothing About)
TLDR Version: OMG let’s go back in time to the days of celebrities hawking their aerobics workout tapes in the 80s and 90s! (I bet Gen Z probably knows nothing about these 8 popular celeb workouts! Just picking on you; it's all in gest.) ❤️
In a world not so far away, WAY back in the 1980s, we had these things called VHS TAPES.
We used to watch them on pre-historic TVs that didn’t have any LED lights and screens. *gasp* *horror screamy sounds* All sorts of celebrities would push their crappy VHS tape workouts and exercise regimens on us “regular” people.
If you are a Gen Zer reading this, have I lost you yet? You have been around for DVDs, so you can relate.
Anyway, back to my story. Picture it: America, in the old timey days of the 1980s and 90s. No matter if you lived in the Pacific Northwestern states of Washington, Oregon, and California, or if you lived in small town Tennessee like me, you were touched by the aerobics exercise craze in some way back then.
I was just a middle and high schooler back then. My mom, who was a woman in her mid 20s and early 30s, and I got really fascinated watching this workout video called, Callanetics. (Notice I didn’t say we worked out to Callanetics; we just watched it a lot.) I used to think that the Callanetics lady was so cool; to me, she really had her fitness stuff TOGETHER. She had on those fashionable lavender leotards and leg warmers; she was the STUFF, you hear me?
There was Callanetics…
…and Super Callanetics!
We had all three VHS tapes! Were we O-B-S-E-S-S-E-D, much? Perhaps.
Once I graduated high school and moved out on my own and was able to watch MTV and VH1 freely, I, too, became obsessed with watching “celebrity workouts.” (Does anybody besides me remember when VH1 would play all the “grown up music” videos and MTV would play the “young people music” videos? Good times, good times!
Anyway, I’m telling you all of this because I want you to go back in time with me as I reminisce over 10 very popular celebrity workouts of the 80s and 90s.
I blame supermodel Claudia Schiffer for this, because in my early 20s, I really enjoyed watching several of her workout tapes when I came home from my full-time job. She the best friend (in my head) who just wouldn’t shut up about doing bicep curls.
