I have a special place in my heart for Truck Drivers! My Dad is one AND if I hadn't gone into radio, I might have ended up doing the same thing! :) Traveling around the country, checking out the cool things each state has to offer.

It's an awesome way to make a living but it also can be lonely and a bit wild! I asked my Dad to give me his two biggest pet peeves when it comes to maneuvering the roads so the next time you see a giant semi, ask for them to honk the horn but please be aware of these two things!

1) Trucks need a safe distance to break so when you are whipping in and out of traffic PLEASE make sure you are not slamming on your breaks in front of a semi. As my Dad was telling me this he let out an, "Oh, sh***" A driver had waited way too long to get over, cut in front of him and then slammed on his breaks. My Dad's truck weighs 80,000 pounds, if he didn't have his head on a swivel that could have been a major accident. FYI, he was on his hands free head-set while speaking with me, stay off that phone!

2) When merging onto the freeway you need to reach the speed everyone else is going but also yield to the traffic. What he says happens over and over again is he'll be in the right lane and there is ALWAYS somebody trying to get into traffic at a speed of 35 instead of 65! And THEN they try and speed up. SUPER dangerous. Put the peddle to the metal people!

It's such a wonderful thing to be able to be on the road whipping around going different places but always, always pay attention and show truck drivers respect. You don't want THIS to happen to you

Being that this week is Truck Driver Appreciation, the city of Grandview wants to hook-up ALL the truck drivers :)

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, September 8th - 14th, is when America takes the time to honor all professional truck drivers. These 3.5 Million men and women not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time; they also keep our highways safe. The Washington Trucking Associations and its sponsors would like to say thank you to all of the nation’s truck drivers for their continuous hard work and dedication in moving America's economy forward. They'll be serving free breakfast and lunch to the drivers from 6 am - 1 pm on Friday, September 13th at the Eastbound Grandview Weigh Station. US-12, Grandview, WA 98930
